Getting Ready for my March Solo Show

Greetings, friends! I have been busy getting ready for a big solo show in March and hoping I have enough work to fill a rather large space. I will be back at Unterhammer am Karlstal, a venue I love. For the past couple of years, I’ve shown my mixed media collages, primarily. For this exhibit, I’m also stepping up my painting game. I hope to show 4-5 canvases in addition to new and old collages.

My collages are created through a process of combining different media and ripped-up pages of marks. I continue to build through layering, adding, sometimes subtracting elements, and re-configuring. Occasionally I even add embroidery. I am trying to relate the paintings to this process, but instead of combining collage pieces, I am building up layers of marks, subtracting areas by covering them up and then adding more and more layers until I feel the image is resolved.

Each painting evolves according to its own internal logic, which is a fun process to follow. Sometimes I even feel it is painting itself, if that makes sense. Often I will use a part of a collage as a starting off point, but you would never guess where the inspiration came from when it is all said and done. The work takes on a momentum of its own.

Here is a little sneak preview of some of the work I’m getting ready.

If you happen to find yourself in the Kaiserslautern area in March, please come by!
