Opening next week!
I’m excited to announce my upcoming show with German artist Astrid Blasberg at Unterhammer im Karlstal, opening May 10, 2016 and lasting through July 17. There will be an opening reception at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 10.
The purpose of this show is to install site-specific works reflecting the environment and history of this former ironworks and foundry and the beautiful wooded valley it occupies. In my journey to create artworks reflecting this encounter, I was drawn to the natural world but could not ignore traces of human intervention in the ecosystem. Again and again, the work seemed to come back to that. So, it was an interesting ebb and flow, which I eventually embraced in these mixed media works.
In the end, letting this place sit with me and visiting it repeatedly, both physically and through my art, is a huge step forward in my growth and I think I have come out the other side as a better artist. I’m so excited to see this show installed and to share my work with a new audience here in Germany!
You can take a tour of the work on my website and stay tuned for pictures of the installation and opening night!
