New Work: Getting to the Heart of Things

Greetings, art lovers! I am getting ready for a show at the library in a couple of weeks and it is just now hitting me how soon it is coming up. There is a lot to do and not enough time to do it in. Fortunately, I’ve been working pretty continuously despite this being a hot and busy summer.

My solution has been to work in the early morning when the house is quiet, before I have to be at work. I think my cat, Sophie, digs the tranquility of my studio mornings just as much as I do!

Studio Morning

As you can see, I was in the early stages of a drawing. My current work seems to revolve around mixed media. Here is the finished result!

After I finished this piece I started on another small experiment. The pieces you see in this post have watercolor, watercolor pencil, ink, gouache and cut paper.

A promising start.

I decided I wanted to add some small line drawings to the image and that turned into more layers as I cut and glued extra pieces of the tracing paper onto the piece. Here is the finished project.

I have one large painting yet to finish for my upcoming show. I just hope that life doesn’t get in the way before I can get it done.

Until next time!
