Playing with Line and Mixed Media

Yikes! It has been way too long since my last post. Never fear, it has been a busy spring and summer, but I I am working away in the time I can carve out for myself. I wanted to share some of my latest artistic explorations.

In these small works, I’ve married the several strains of my work from the past year or so, resulting in something not quite abstract and not quite surreal. In these paintings, which continue to feature birds and natural forms, I evoke feminine forms such as flower petals, leaves, ribbons and sashes, and paint drips in a chaotic arrangement balanced between order and entropy, and between tentative lines and fully painted forms.

(How do you like my artist statement?)

These are mixed media pieces. I start with an ink line drawing then I build layers of gouache, watercolor and watercolor pencil. Once I’m satisfied with the painting, I expand the original ink drawing on top of the areas with gouache.
