I am so pleased to announce that my Chocolate Cupcake painting is currently on view at the Target Gallery in Alexandria, Virginia.
Exhibition Dates: June 8 – 30th, 2013 Reception: Thursday, June 13th, 6-8pm • Gallery Talk at 7pm 105 N. Union Street, Alexandria, VirginaAfter viewing the show online, I have to say this may be the best group show in which I’ve participated. It’s a tantalizing mix of mediums and treatments addressing the confounding question: just what is our relationship with food? You can see more of the works in the show here.

Here is the statement by the juror, April Wood:
Food: Friend or Foe is a mixed media exhibition that explores our universal relationship to the things we ingest. The work selected for this exhibition tends toward the darker side of the scale, focusing on work that through a play of real versus surreal creates an overall environment meant to simultaneously tantalize and give the viewer pause. This juxtaposition exists within individual pieces in the exhibition, but also in the way the works relate to one another as a cohesive show. Pieces that are syrupy sweet take on a new connotation when paired with more subversive works. Many of the pieces in the exhibition have a direct correlation to the body, the space in which the digestive process occurs, and to the tools that one might utilize to cross the boundary of the body. The colors, textures, materials, and decadent imagery employed by the artists in the show create a delectable space for contemplation, one that each viewer will approach from their own relationship to food.
I, for one, am very intrigued! If you are in the area, please stop by… It kills me that I will be too far away to see it myself!
